This is is one of several pieces that uses the harsh reality of the art of ballet as a reflection upon the cost of beauty and inner heaviness of public lightness.
The mesmerising grace that seems so effortless to the audience comes with permanent titanic effort, perpetual hard work since early childhood, much physical sacrifice, injury, and pain. Hidden from public eye, the wounds are still there. But they are endured with stoicism and perseverance in the name of art.
This is both a tribute to ballet dancers directly, and a broader acknowledgement and reflection of the pains and sacrifice we all go through for the things we believe in and strive for, be it for ourselves or for the sake of others. Especially when it comes to the complex notions of beauty and art.
