Jesus, at the Last Supper, institutes the New Covenant through His blood, stating, "This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood". I do not identify as christian because I see no Jesus in the organised religion called christianity. As a whole. I know decent christians though. I don’t believe in organised religion anyway, and I am repulsed by the concept of worship. Of any sort. I practices shamanism, because it doesn’t worship, but works on principles of unity, respect, preservation, and continuity. I accept and respect Jesus as an awesome brave human, a socialist, a political figure. Most probably a shaman. He was rad, he was down to earth, his heart was in the right place, he had anger issues and integrity. He was not white. He was not a bigot. He was punk. His execution was political. Most organised christians don’t follow the New Word, and still live by the Old testament. Because the latter satisfies the primal emotions of greed, revenge, narcissism. The New testament is uncomfortable. This piece is about the limits of despair, the points of being pushed over the edge, the intolerable entitlement of the oppression. I do not condone violence per se. But there are limits to being abused and tortured. Continuous racism, oppression, colonisation, deprivation, subjugation, enslavement, genocide shall inevitably bring resistance and violence. If you don’t want it, then STOP OPPRESSING AND KILLING PEOPLE, YOU FUCKING TWATS.
The piece is based on orthodox icons of Jesus. When portrayed with a book open — He is a Teacher; boom closed — a Judge. Closed book of New testament is burnt, as it was never accepted. The "I AM He Who Is" (ὁ ὬΝ) in the crucifix halo is trapped behind police tape. And, Yes, He is wearing The Clash: Guns of Brixton t-shirt. This is a piece of both despair and hope; fatigue and resistance. This is a punk piece, a humanitarian piece, a rebellion piece: against oppression, against totalitarianism, against militant states, against racism, against unlawful law-enforcement, against the republican jesus, against the bystanders. Until all living beings are happy, until all living beings a free!
